Sanjay has been involved in assessing the global and regional status of more than 4000 species in several orders of fauna, flora and fungi in several countries in South Asia since 1995 through Conservation Assessment and Management Plan (CAMP) workshops and more recently through the Global Species Assessment workshops of SSC/IUCN and CI/CABS. He has been involved in training and conducting assessment workshops in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal in South Asia, and in Sumatra and Philippines in Southeast Asia. As part of species conservation efforts, he is involved in editing an international monthly online peer reviewed conservation and taxonomy journal, Journal of Threatened Taxa. His special interests are amphibians, spiders (mygalomorphs), rodent and bats, palms and macrofungi.
