The assessment process

The assessment process is likely to entail a number of components, depending on the approach used. Workshops are likely to play an important part in bringing experts together to assimilate the latest information on species and validate the assessments. Some processes, like the Conservation Assessment and Management Plan (CAMP) approach, is relatively rapid and intense, while other approaches may be run over longer time periods.

Here we describe a number of approaches which have been used for National Red List and global Red List development. The suitability of these approaches is likely to vary based on the context in which the National Red List is developed.
